PTA Picnic and Meet the Teacher Evening - 9th February - 5.30 pm to 7.45 pm

SUNNYHILLS SCHOOL PTA
"Family Picnic and Meet the Teacher Evening"

Date:  Thursday 9th February 2017
Time:  5.30pm – 7.45pm
Bring:  Coins for sausage sizzle, drinks, ice creams or your own picnic dinner
Classroom Orientations: Start at 6.00pm

Hello again to all Sunnyhills School families!

Our Family Picnic / Meet the Teacher Evening is going to be a wonderful event and we look forward to seeing you there on Thursday 9th February.  This is a great opportunity for you to meet all of our wonderful teachers (and for them to meet you) and for you to meet up with old friends and make new ones too.

The teachers would like to take the opportunity, as they did last year, to let the parents/caregivers of the students in their class know about aspects the class programme. They will also cover routines and expectations appropriate to the year level.  These short (approximately 15-20 minutes) information sessions will be staggered across the evening to allow for attendance at more than one if required. This is not a one on one interview situation. Home/School partnership discussions regarding individual students will take place in Week 3.

Classroom orientation information - Please make your way to your children's class at the following times:

Senior School classes at 6pm
Junior School at 6.30pm
Middle School at 7pm.

During this time, teachers from the syndicates not involved will be in the playground supervising the Sunnyhills children from all syndicates.  For health and safety reasons, we ask that you take pre-schoolers with you or organise cover for them with a friend.  If the picnic is cancelled due to bad weather, the information sessions will still take place for adults only, at the times indicated above.

We ask that children do not use their bikes or scooters at the picnic to avoid accidents when there are so many little ones around.

PTA members will be easy to identify, so please introduce yourselves to us – we look forward to meeting you on Thursday evening.

If you are able to help over the course of the evening with cooking or serving please complete the following form by clicking on the following link - https://goo.gl/forms/L7VNnKR0Uw9K3XOq2

See you at the picnic!

Kids Caring for Kids - Mufti Day this Friday

PTA Mufti Day is this Friday. All the funds raised will be sent directly to Waiau School.

Room 20 approached the PTA after they saw what had happened in the Earthquakes in Wellington and the South Island and discussed as a class what had happened and how they could help.

They investigated Waiau School as they were all saddened by the damage to the school pool. These are some things they found out about the school:

  • Learning for Life, is their motto - this is exactly the same as ours!
  • Miss Mary Kimber Principal - 3 classes only
  • 200 -250 people sleeping in the school buildings or in their cars in the school grounds
  • water was off
  • brick homes broken
  • roads and power lines broken
  • many people have left the area
  • pool cracked and all water drained away

The attached link shows the earthquake damage to this school.

This is a small country school with only 3 classes. Their pool has cracked – all the water has leaked out and lots of families are sleeping at the school because their houses have been damaged by the strong earthquake.

Huff 'n Puff - Thank you for your support

Wow, what an amazing afternoon we had on Friday, the atmosphere was electric and the kids were all buzzing - weren't we so lucky with the weather!

It was so wonderful to see all the children and teachers dressed in their house colours and with their running feet on.  The chants were brilliant and was cool to see the friendly rivalry between the houses and ongoing positive support of all the runners.

Some interesting facts:

  • Students ran over 5200 laps = 520,000 meters = 520 kilometers
  • Teacher & Parents Relay team
    • Sponsored to run 205 laps
    • Team actually completed 321 laps - you guys were brilliant
    • Team raised $380

Without the following support the afternoon wouldn't have been the success it was.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

  • To the Huff 'n Puff team - Kylee L, Amanda P, Danielle G & Claire A, working behind the scenes to organise and ensure a smoothly run event.
  • To our amazing house captains for all their hard work setting up, awesome house chants and fabulous support towards other students - you guys are wonderful role models.
  • To all the teaching staff who got behind the students and their houses and the Teacher & Parent relay team, you all nailed it.  Your support and enthusiasm was awesome!
  • To all the super parents helpers on the day, marking off laps, handing out the drinks and wristbands, writing up laps, participated in the Teacher & Parent relay team and with the clean up, we wouldn't have been able to do it without you.
  • To all the parents, grandparents who gave up their afternoon to support their children, it was great to see so much support from our community.
Thank you to McCafe for their yummy coffees and hot chocolate, this was a real hit and it was great to be able to offer this.

Dates to remember:

Week 5 - Final date for the money to be returned by Thursday 25th August to be entered into the prize draws

Week 7 - Winner of the Chromebooks drawn at whole school assembly Friday 9th September at 12pm

Every $10 raised will give your child one entry into the Chromebook draw. We have 3 Chromebooks prize draws one for each syndicate: Junior, Middle and Senior, plus spot prizes.

Kylee L - PTA Chairperson & Mrs Driver before the fun began.

Thank you again for all your amazing support and making the Huff 'n Puff the success it was.

Huff 'n Puff - this Friday

The Sunnyhills School PTA Huff 'n Puff fun run
is this Friday at 1pm

ALL WELCOME

Come along and support the children, teacher & parents relay team!

There will be hot coffee and hot chocolate available to purchase to keep you warm while you cheer us along! The PTA will receive a $ portion from all sales.

How the Huff 'n Puff works:
  • Children will come to school in mufti - warm and suitable for running in.
  • Lunchtime will be earlier from 12 - 12.45pm and there will be no whole school assembly.
  • Before the start children will be given a race card with their name and room number, they will run with these and once they complete a lap a parent will mark each lap off.
  • The track will be around the netball courts and senior playground.
  • Children will sit in house groups with house captains and teachers.  House chants have been created and sung during the races.
  • House Competition - house points tokens will be given out randomly during the event and these then tallied up for the house competition and announced at assembly.
  • Children will race in year groups - the junior students will have 'runners' to help/encourage them.
  • At the end of the race each child will be given a bottle of water and their house coloured wristband then sit back with their houses.
The fun run is in Year groups and the order is: Year 3, Year 4, Year 1, Year 2, Year 5, Year 6 - Start time is 1pm with 10 min per race & a 5 min swap around.

Start times, ideally (give or take) will be:

Year 3: 1pm
Year 4: 1.15pm
Year 1: 1.30pm
Year 2: 1.45pm
Year 5: 2pm
Year 6: 2.15pm

Remember for every $10 of sponsorship your child collects gives them 1 entry into the draw to win a Chrome book.  This time there is one Chrome Book per syndicate - 3 in total and spot prizes.

All funds raised go towards the roof on the senior courtyard.

The PTA thank you for your continued support

Huff 'n Puff - this Friday

Teachers and Parents sponsored relay team

Who wants to see Mrs Driver and the teachers move it, move it?

So far we only have sponsorship for the teachers (& parents) to complete 40 laps which we can do in our sleep.

Please consider popping onto Wrap it up to sponsor us to do laps for Huff 'n Puff this Friday. We need to have sponsorship in my Thursday 3pm so we can work out how many laps we have to each do.

Please make it challenging for us - this sponsorship will be added to the total that your child brings in with cash or cheque from their individual sponsorship towards the $10 per entry into the draw for the Chromebook (it just is paid first via this system). Thanks for making us S W E A T !
